"I was raised in the inner city, so you already know when you're raised on a block where it all takes place, it becomes a part of you." - Ky-Mani Marley
Whenever the Marley name is mentioned, Bob Marley, the king of Reggae and icon of music as well as society immediately comes to mind. One of the many dynamic expressions of the great Robert Nesta Marley can be witnessed today through his son, the one that made the term "shotta" infamous, Ky-Mani Marley. Widely recognized for his "play for keeps" characters on the silver screen, Ky-Mani is mainly known for his character "Biggs" on the critically acclaimed, yet underground release, "Shottas" featuring Spragga Benz, Louie Rankin, and Wyclef Jean. He would be the first to admit that his upbringing wasn't that much different than his juvenile delinquent character in that flick, but his musical inheritance would prove to be more influential on the young Marley than the streets of Miami.
Ky-Mani has teamed up with Vox Music for his new album "Radio"; expanding the Marley hierarchy into Hip Hop and R&B, as well as crossing geographic boundaries with Voxonic’s (Vox Music's parent company) trailblazing voice conversion system which can translate any voice into any known language on the planet. With guest appearances from sultry songstress Mya and G Unit soldier Young Buck, Ky-Mani is bound to snag the music fans the same way he did those underground movie buffs.
HHNLive.com writer ShaBe sits down with Ky-Mani Marley. Sha and Ky-Mani discuss growing up with a legend for a father, his work in the film "Shottas", Young Buck, touring with Van Halen and much more.
Ky-Mani on hooking up with Van Halen: "David Lee (Roth) is a fan of Shottas, which was crazy..."
